Are you an experienced stonemason, stone fabricator or kitchen benchtop installer interested in employer opportunities in Australia? Do you have practical experience with marble, granite, quartzite, permitted porcelain products or stone fabrication machinery?

Sleek Migration welcomes expressions of interest from skilled workers in the stone fabrication and installation industry. Send us your resume, a portfolio of your work and a video of approximately five minutes explaining your experience. With your permission, we may refer suitable profiles to employers for their consideration, subject to current opportunities.

If an employer wishes to offer you employment and consider sponsorship, we can assess the migration pathway and assist with the sponsorship, nomination and visa paperwork under an agreed engagement.

Stone industry experience we would like to hear about

We are interested in hearing from workers with genuine trade experience across workshop fabrication, site measurement and installation. Relevant skills may include:

  1. Reading drawings, interpreting specifications and checking dimensions.
  2. Measuring and templating kitchen benchtops, islands, splashbacks and bathroom surfaces.
  3. Cutting, shaping, polishing and finishing stone components.
  4. Preparing joints, edge profiles and sink or appliance openings.
  5. Using CNC stone machinery, bridge saws, waterjets or polishing equipment within your training and authorisation.
  6. Inspecting finished components and checking fit, finish and dimensions.
  7. Installing stone surfaces and coordinating with builders or cabinetmakers.
  8. Working safely with heavy materials, machinery and the applicable dust controls.

Tell us which tasks you perform independently and which you assist with. A clear account of your actual work is more useful than a long list of machines you have only observed.

Stonemasons, fabricators and installers: which role describes your work?

Different employers use different job titles. Your resume may describe you as a stone mason, stone fabricator, benchtop installer, marble installer, granite polisher, bridge saw operator or CNC stone operator.

For migration purposes, the actual trade skills, duties and proposed Australian position need to be assessed. ANZSCO Stonemason, code 331112, includes work with stone structures and kitchen benchtops. Its scope includes skilled stone cutting, shaping and associated fabrication work.

A specialised role may require a closer review of how its tasks relate to the occupation. Being a CNC operator in another industry, or operating one machine without broader trade responsibilities, does not automatically establish eligibility as a Stonemason.

Kitchen benchtop fabrication and installation

Modern stone businesses can combine factory production with detailed site work. A project may involve interpreting a customer’s drawings, checking site dimensions, preparing components, inspecting finishes and installing the completed surfaces.

For example, consider a hypothetical worker who measures a kitchen, interprets production drawings, fabricates stone components and helps complete the installation. Their portfolio should identify which of those stages they personally performed.

Tell us about kitchen islands, waterfall ends, bathroom vanities, splashbacks, reception counters or other relevant projects you have completed. Include the material, your tasks and the equipment used. Photos of finished work are helpful when accompanied by a short explanation of your contribution.

CNC stone operators, bridge saw operators and waterjet experience

If you have worked with stone machinery, describe your responsibilities precisely. Employers may distinguish between loading materials, running an established program, setting up tooling, interpreting drawings, preparing cutting layouts and programming equipment.

Your resume should identify the machine types, relevant software and the materials you have worked with. Explain whether your experience covers setup, operation, troubleshooting or programming, without claiming skills you have not performed.

The proposed occupation will depend on the complete position. Machine operation experience can be relevant to a skilled stone role, but it is not a substitute for assessing that role against the migration requirements.

Natural stone, porcelain and the engineered stone ban

Australia prohibits the manufacture, supply, processing and installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs, subject to limited exceptions. This means an Australian opportunity must involve lawful materials and work practices.

Natural stone is not prohibited by that engineered stone ban. Certain other products, including porcelain and sintered stone without resin, are excluded from the definition. This does not remove the need to control silica and other workplace risks. The exact product and proposed work should be checked against the applicable rules. See Safe Work Australia’s engineered stone guidance.

If your overseas experience includes engineered stone or quartz benchtops, describe that history accurately. An employer can consider the relevance of your existing skills to lawful Australian work. Previous experience does not authorise prohibited processing or installation in Australia.

Can a stonemason obtain employer sponsorship?

Stonemason, ANZSCO 331112, is included in the 482 Core Skills occupations instrument and the 494 occupations instrument. This creates potential pathways for eligible employers, positions and applicants.

For the 482 Core Skills visa, applicants generally need at least one year of relevant experience in the nominated occupation or a related field, together with the required skills and other eligibility criteria. Qualifying part time or casual experience must be equivalent to at least 12 months of full time work. English, health, character and any applicable assessment requirements also need review.

The 494 Employer Sponsored stream has different requirements, including an eligible regional position and generally three years of relevant experience. Skills assessment, age and English requirements must also be considered, including any applicable exemptions.

An employer’s interest in your profile does not establish visa eligibility. The actual position, employment terms and applicant’s circumstances must be assessed together.

Qualifications and TRA skills assessment

Provide your trade certificates, apprenticeship records, transcripts and employment evidence. ANZSCO identifies Stonemason as a Skill Level 3 occupation, with relevant trade qualifications and training as its indicative standard. Its experience substitution provisions do not remove separate visa or skills assessment requirements.

Trades Recognition Australia administers different assessment programs. The appropriate pathway depends on matters including your occupation, passport, where you studied and the visa sought. A skills assessment should not be assumed to be mandatory or unnecessary without checking the applicable requirements.

Your portfolio and video can assist an employer’s initial review. They do not replace a formal skills assessment or documentary proof of employment where required.

Send a five minute video of your experience

Please prepare a video of approximately five minutes. It can combine a short introduction with an explanation of completed projects and permitted workplace footage.

Approximate timing What to cover
First 30 seconds Your name, current country and main stone industry role
Next minute Your qualifications, years of experience and materials used
Next two minutes Your own fabrication, machinery or installation experience, supported by project examples
Next minute Close views of completed work, with an explanation of what you personally did
Final 30 seconds Your availability, preferred locations and willingness to relocate

You do not need to perform a hazardous task for the camera. Use footage you are authorised to share and follow workplace rules. Keep client information, confidential drawings and other people’s images out of the video unless you have permission.

If filming at work is not permitted, explain your experience using photographs of completed projects that you are allowed to share.

What should you email us?

Please provide:

  1. Your current resume, with employers, dates, hours and actual duties.
  2. Relevant trade qualifications and training records.
  3. A portfolio showing work you personally completed.
  4. A link to your approximately five minute video.
  5. Your current country and, if in Australia, visa type and expiry date.
  6. Your preferred locations and availability to relocate.
  7. Your permission for us to share your profile, portfolio and video with potential employers for employment consideration.

Employment references and payment evidence may be requested during the assessment. Ensure all information is accurate and distinguish your own work from projects completed by a wider team.

How the employer referral and migration process works

We review the information to understand your experience and possible migration considerations. With your permission, we may introduce your profile to an employer where a relevant opportunity is available.

The employer decides whether to contact you, assess your practical skills, interview you or offer employment. Any trade testing should follow appropriate workplace arrangements.

If both parties wish to proceed, we can assess the proposed sponsorship pathway and explain the evidence, costs and migration services. Any professional migration engagement is documented separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can overseas stone fabricators express interest?

Yes. Overseas and onshore workers can send their information. Any referral depends on employer interest, available opportunities and the relevance of your experience.

Can a benchtop installer qualify as a stonemason?

The actual duties and skill level need assessment. A title alone does not establish the occupation or visa eligibility.

Can a CNC operator apply?

Send details of your stone industry experience, machine responsibilities and broader trade skills. CNC operation in a different material or industry may require a different occupational assessment.

Does sending a video guarantee an interview or sponsorship?

No. The employer makes its own employment decisions, and visa eligibility requires a separate assessment.

Do I need an employer before contacting Sleek Migration?

You can send an expression of interest for potential referral. If you already have a willing employer, include the proposed job details and an authorised contact with their agreement.

The employer independently decides whether to interview you, offer employment or pursue sponsorship. If an employer and applicant wish to proceed, we can provide migration assistance under a separate written service agreement.
